Objective: I have a passion for using photographs to tell stories about people. I am seeking an opportunity for a full-time position, freelance assignments or contract work with a quality publication or wire service, to continue to build upon my talents and experience in photojournalism.
Skills and Experience:
Photography
I have been taking award-winning photographs since age 12. My experience and training ranges from public relations to fine art photography. I fine-tuned my natural eye for composition and aesthetics through my education. The work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugene Smith and Roy Stryker and the Farm Security Administration photographers influenced my choice of a career in documentary photojournalism. My strength is in visual story telling. I have a full range of production experience from film developing through digital systems. I have a complete working knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop and other aspects of a digital darkroom, and am able to transmit images from the field. I am an experienced and creative photo editor of my work and the work of others.
Layout and Design
From the paste-up era through Quark Xpress, I have created photo essays and stories using my own images and other images chosen from diverse sources. One real challenge was developing themed photo pages from a grab bag of reader submitted snapshots. I have assisted in newspaper redesign and in creating a stylebook. I have trained new editors in layout and design and in using Quark Xpress.
Leadership and Mentoring
Managed award-winning photography staffs, including hiring and supervision. Trained trainees for job skills center. Mentored numerous photographers, reporters and at-risk youth. Increased visibility and public perception of publications and organizations.
